The holidays blessed me with a wonderful, new puppy...Sadie. With the Nashville real estate market being a little more challenging recently, this part Pom, part Yorkie ball of fur is a welcome stress reliever and lesson reminder.
Since it has been 18 years since I have had a puppy, I was determined to do it right and not have a spoiled, yappy best friend. Pup Scouts seemed to be the best solution. For 8 weeks, 4lbs to 7lbs Sadie "studied" with other 10-week-old students including hounddog Merl, standard poodle Nicolas, mut Doogan, and sheltie Lacy. As you can imagine, the attention span of these little ones was small and their desire to get acquainted with each other large.
As owner frustration surfaced each week, the very patient Pup Scouts' leader gently repeated commands over and over. The repetition was as much for the owners as it was for the puppies. When it seemed like all these classes might be just a waste of time, money and energy, something happened. Puppies started to "get it." They would sit, would lay, would come when called and would do that one important thing...outside! Coming to class, doing the homework, and being patient paid off.
Isn't this what happens with us as realtors? We get frustrated and distracted in a challenging market and need to be "gently" nudged to get back to the repetitive things (networking, making calls, training, farming) that get us business? When we keep doing these things buyers and sellers start to finally "get it" about us and hopefully want to work with us.
Repetition does matter. Here's to the best year in real estate ever in 2010! Here's to the best year in real estate ever in 2010! Here's to the best year in real estate ever in 2010!
