My son is getting married in 10 days. My wife and I started taking private Walz and East Coast Swing dance lessons several weeks ago so we could look respectable on the dance floor.
We have danced some over the years but I have never taken it too seriously. I would like to be a great dancer, but that takes real effort and desire and more time than I seem to have.
Tonight at our lesson I realized, that after 5 private lessons and a few practice sessions at home, I will only be passable at best. The real problem is that my wife loves dancing and I can feel the disappointment. She claims no, but I know better after 30 years of marriage. I know too much.
So, I am committed to more practice sessions in the next 10 days leading up to my son's wedding. I am hopeful that with more practice under my belt, a committment to have fun, and a few drinks, I will blend into the dance floor and carry my wife off her feet, without stepping on them.
Oh, and I hope my son's wedding goes off without a hitch and that he and his bride are happy.
