You Never Know

By
Real Estate Agent with Frank Rubi Real Estate

I recently blogged about a deal that didn't go through because of the appraisal.  The phone conversation between myself and my client actually got rather ugly.  I never did like the way he spoke to his girlfriend in front of me when they disagreed about something.  It was always in the back of my mind.  Anyway when I tried to make this deal work he became rather angry.  Accused me of not being on his side etc.  I tried to ask him to be in the other guys shoes and look at it from his point of view.  This guy went ballistic.  I finally had enough of it and told him what I thought.  You know what I still fell good about it.  he can find another agent, but I know they won't be as patient as i was.  Good luck I hope he learns to talk better to his girlfriend.  I finally got to know what he was really like, you just never know.

I know this business is a personal relationship type, but I am only going to take so much from someone before I speak my mind.  I invite other agents to chime in.

Same here, I think everyone has that place where they draw the line. It's sometimes difficult, because you have to protect your reputation. But, for me, I don't take abusive people very well and simply walk away. If they badmouth me then so be it, as long as I feel good about my ethics and remain professional.

My mentor when I started Real Estate advised me that life was too short to waste your time on a---o,s Its too hard on your attitude which is one of your most precious assets.

Yeah for you.  Just because we work for someone doesn't mean we have to endure mistreatment.  Hopefully his girlfriend will soon figure out she doesn't have to take his abuse either.

Yea I didn't really pay a whole lot of attention to it until he tried to talk to me that way.  I just don't have to put up with it.  I don't expect anyone else either to take it.

John, as a small business owner your right, you don't have to take what you don't want. Sometimes it is best to walk away from a situation that will not bring you any satisfaction.
