White House Horse Trading

If this health care bill is so great - why can't it pass on its own merits?

Tonight Obama is inviting a select few who voted NO on his health care bill to the White House for a little private "party".  This is a hand picked group of 10.

  • Is this a little pep talk?  Perhaps the long green mile to the firing squad?  It could not possibly be some back door horse trading could it?

One of the lawmakers is Jim Matheson from Utah.  Obama just announced that he is appointing Jim Matheson's brother, Scott Matheson to a prestigious federal judgeship in Utah.

  • While Scott has passable credentials, some have offered he is not the most qualified for the position.

Well, that might take care of Jim and buy his vote. It was just announced that Jim Matheson will not be at the White House tonight.  Let's see if his absence indicates he has been paid in full.

  • What other little special deals are going to be brokered by Obama to force this down our throats ?

Seems the White House is looking more and more like the Mustang Ranch.

Wallace, putting people back to work is essential.  The White House keeps saying 14,000 people a day are losing health care benefits.  Get your head out of the sand.  Those are the newly unemployed.  Fix this job mess and most of those without benefits will have them.

Jon,  I'm not naive enough to think back room deals have never been used before.  Never have I seen such a blatant abuse of vote buying in my life.  It's like waving a red flag at a bull.  The American people are not stupid.  If this is government at its finest - it's high time to clean the slate.

This whole thing needs to start all over again.  I know the American people don't want this thing.

John,  I'm in total agreement.  The bill they are trying to pass is nothing more than a power grab on 18% of our economy.

Everyone in politics trades favors, that's one of the reasons we never get any true representation.

Bonnie,

Whatever happened to representing the folk back home or in standing by your principles? :)

Well those are the slippery ways of Washington.  It is not about legislation with merits anymore.  It is about who can look good to the lobbyists, and get the pay offs and retire rich.  Obama wants to fulfill a campaign promise, so he can show he as done something since he entered the White House come November.  His hobby horse of the health care 'reform' is ripping apart any good image he had, yet he continues.  He would be better off forgetting about it and moving onto something more important like secure borders, and balanced trade so Americans can compete again Internationally.

I think Larry hit it, remember Obama is part of a culture that proscribes to everything that is feel good, regardless of the consequences

JL.   Some trade them and excuse the practice as representing their constituents.  This was purely a personal gain favor for a family member.  From what I have heard that is illegal.

Steve,  Seems standing for principals has been replaced by extended hand palm  up.

Michael - secure borders.  What a novel idea.  How about jobs added to the list?  How about getting out of the student loan program?

The how about list could go on and on.  Obama has to be smart enough to know this is political suicide. Yet he persists undaunted.  We are not seeing the bigger picture.  It's part of the grand scheme of total control.

Wallace - too funny.  No in the front door the way they do Andy Stern.  Perhaps some of them will leave by way of the trash.

Bonnie, He is far to arrogant to listen to the people. He knows what is best for us, just listen, he tells us all the time. These back room deals make me sick. Politics as usually needs to be changed and fast . I am stunned that he refuses to spend the amount of time on the really important issues, like jobs and the economy, as he continues to spend on this. Please keep posting. I enjoy everyone!

Bonnie, will Obama and his lackeys put pressure on NY since now they have folks that are in the news?  Never changes does it.
