Real Living Flag... sharing

Real Living Flag... sharing MY photo

US and Real Living Flags

I am not a big photographer... I am not going to do a photo blog... well I do have a Posterous blog with some photos but I am not a photoblogger.  I admire Teresa Boardman, Kristal Kraft and other real estate people  who are great photographers.

I love good photos.

I am very visual.

When it comes to Flickr I am more of a consumer than a producer.  I believe this is the first photo I am sharing with a Creative Commons license.  Not that I was hoarding my photos.  The default is "all rights reserved" and I seldom add photos to Flickr... but that could change.

There are great posts on ActiveRain about Flickr and the Creative Commons license and that whole web 2.0 thing. Use the ActiveRain Search for Flickr Tutorials.

Real Living Flag -  a picture is worth a thousand words

I love MY  photo of a US flag and a Real Living flag against a blue Columbus Ohio sky (we have blue sky this morning too. YAY!!!)   I've used my flag photo in the banners on the top of my  Discover Columbus OH blog and my Worthington Old and News blog... not on the Columbus version now but it is on the Worthington banner... I change those... not that often because I really don't have a lot of good local photos.  I believe it is on both of my Facebook fan page avatars now too...

I have used the Real Living flag photo  on a number of blog posts.

Real Living Flag. I'm sharing with other Real Living agents

I would be honored if anyone with Real Living when they need a photo for their website, or for a blog post, or a Facebook Fan page where they are talking about Real Living would use my photo.  I have licenced the photo with a Creative Commons license.   You can crop it.  You can change it.  You can use it commercially.   All that is required is Attribution.

Just attribute the photo to me and I will be thrilled.  Sharing can be good...

Thanks!

Image Credit: It's Mine but this is what a Flickr Photostream and license link will often look like. This can be what attribution looks like!  First link is to my Flickr Photostream.  Second link is the license.

Maureen, I would suggest taking a new picture.  In this one, the American flag is wrapped around the pole.  It needs to be fully unfurled, so you can see the entire flag.

Thanks for the suggestion and I am sure you meant it to be helpful and not critical.  You at the mercy of the wind and time when taking photos.  I am sure when I took the photo a couple of years ago I would have been thrilled if the  US flag had been totally unfurled.  I must have had something to do that day other than stand there and wait for the wind to take care of that for me.

In a perfect world a blue sky, both flags unfurled would be wonderful.

Yes, definitely meant to be helpful.  I understand not having the time to wait for the perfect shot.  Yesterday was a beautiful day in my town, and I wanted to take pictures of everything, but didn't have time to stop driving from place to place more than once.  I did manage to take a good picture of a local neighborhood banner that I'll be able to place on Localism.

Bob,

You might want to read Jeff Turner's For The Love Of Creative Commons  Jeff who likes to take  photos wrote:

"Some of what I consider my favorite photos, like the one to the right, have never been used via the Creative Commons. And, I think you'll see from the uses below, the photos that were chosen by others to illustrate their posts are not "award winning" photography."

He's referring to the picture of a bee in the post.

The photo here to the left in the comment  is one Jeff writes about how many posts it has shown up on to illustrate the post  because of the Creative Commons license.  Gorgeous photos are NOT the only photos that are in demand for illustrating blogs.  If you would never use a photo because it is not perfect, thats on you.

I am sorry if you understood this post to mean I was bragging that this is "award winning" photography.    I was offering it and a little bit of a lesson about Creative Commons license to other Real Living agents.  Sorry that you either did not read the post  to understand I am not saying I am a great photographer or it's a great photo or just  did not understand it enough to comment other than leaving a comment criticizing the photo.  That's web 2.0 for ya!

It would have been great if the wind, the sky and the flag had all aligned but it did not.

Gee, I thought it was a neat shot.  At least, the flag is not tattered.  lol The other day I drove past a nursery in town that was flying the American flag proudly and properly centered and flying higher than the two other country flags flanking it.  but when I looked closer at the American flag it was all in tatters.  It is my understanding that you are not to fly the flag when it gets like that and that there are certain ways to properly "lay it to rest."  I meant to look it up, but haven't.

I admire photo-bloggers too.  Been meaning to start one but, dang, if life and work don't get in the way.

Maggie thanks  we go through a lot of flags.  It must be windy. There have been times we have had US flags up there that are slightly  tattered but the office staff is pretty good about keeping an eye on that.

I believe if you contact the American Legion or the VFW they will take care of the whole "lay it to rest" for a flag.  I think sometimes Boy Scout troops have projects... collecting tattered flags so they can be "layed to rest."  I think they are burned?

Now I am going to share another photo here... and it like the photo of the Real Living flag  is not "award winning photography" and although Bob focused on the US flag this post is about the Real Living flag....this photo has  way too much sky... there are cars in the way...there is icky dirty snow...  I could just wait for the cars and snow to melt...  or I can just take a photo that illustrates the point.   This is a photo from today, from further away so you can see the front of our building such as it is as sell as the flag pole. It is just a cell phone picture and I cut off the notrh edge of the building... I am not a photographer...

No More Real Living Flag or why I sometimes hate ActiveRain

There is no more Real Living flag.  I don't believe there has been for awhile.  I remember the Real Living flag being tattered. Luckily with the Real Living flag,  we don't have to "Lay it to rest"  like a US flag...

So no I can not go back and retake a photo of the Real Living flag... which is what this post is about.

Maureen, you can always photo shop the two pictures.  This one looks unfurled.

J/K!  I don't mean to give you more work.  I think it's cool that you guys have a company flag.

Your office building is so pretty.  It reminds me of the brick buildings I grew up around in NYC.  I'm surrounded by CBS now. =)

I'm not doing any photo shopping... flags furl and unfurl... that's life.

oooh it is not pretty..  everything in Worthington has to be brick and colonial looking (OK there are buildings which are NOT )  our building was built in the 1970s and it is a bilevel!   The proportions on the pediment over the porch are off..

I wish we still had the Real Living flag.

MM, Capturing flags in the wind is not easy. It's amazing that you got the Real Living Flag waving with all the letters showing. Very generous of you to share it. Good work all around!

OK MM you set off my G-alerts, so here I am!  Thanks for the compliment.  I like  your photo of the flags against the blue sky.  Flags always give me goose bumps, especially Old Glory.  Furled or unfurled that flag brings emotion to my soul.

Ginger Thanks...  I guess I could have shimmied up the pole and straightened out the US flag before shooting the photo.

KK You are my idol....

Thanks Renee.  Jeff is my  CCl  hero.

Or maybe another Real Living agent someday will have a photo of a Real Living flag flying

A. Against a blue sky (we have one today!!!)

B. Furled out..  (enough wind)

C. On a pole with a US flag fully unfurled...  (not too much crazy whipping around wind)

D. Sharing it with a Creative Commons license which allows commercial use!
