The 'Downeaster' From Maine to Boston Shows Us What The Hub Can Do For Ohio

Sleek Train Like The One That Could Boost Our Economy In Ohio This is why The Ohio Hub and the 3C Corridor Plan is such a great idea for Cleveland and Ohio in general. Watch this video and see what the Downeaster Railroad Line has done for people in the Maine to Boston corridor. No really, please watch it!

I also have a link here to the May 2007 financial report regarding the Downeaster. Ridership is up, they had over 28k riders in May of this year. They are at 97 percent of their target ridership for the fiscall year (I am assuming it's July to July?) They are getting ready to add a new daily round trip to their service schedule.

One of the guys interviewed in the above video talks about housing. He said it used to be if you were putting up a 1,000 sq ft. dwelling, the mantra was 'you need a two car garage.' Now that is not necessary!

We need this kind of economic boost in Ohio and Cleveland, don't you think? Peace Out-3C

George, you live closer to Maine and Boston than I do (this is not news to you I am sure lol). Have you had a need/opportunity to take the Downeaster yet?

Carole, I have been a fan of this for years. How timely with the gas prices! But, I have lost all faith in Columbus! They worry more about strippers and smoking in bars than they do in improving the economy and housing in our state. Regards, DavidC

David isn't that one of the best songs ever? Anyway, what has been frustrating me is the lack of response I am getting from CABOR or OAR. I just think a presentation from the ODOT exec with all the information about the HUB would be a great speaker to those of us at a bunch of meetings or one big one. I'm thinking they think I am a lone crazy. My next step is a petition drive JUST to get a meeting scheduled for information! Why do we pay dues anyway! I know, don't get you started LOL

What a fabulous idea. I think if that were actually completed, it would have a fantasticly positive effect on the 3C Corridor in particular, and on Ohio in general.

What do you think the chances are of it ever becoming a reality.

Hi Karen, well, the Governor is behind it; the economic reports are better than expected. The matching Federal money is there. So I think it has an excellent chance of moving forward. The time frames for these things make me crazy, so it's not like two years from now we will have a 'first leg' up and running. In fact before anything like that can ocur we have to wait for the environmental study to be completed. Once that is done I gather the process can begin moving forward in a timely fashion...as timely as it gets! lol Thanks for your comments!

Hi Again Carole,

I just noticed... you are from CLEVELAND. Yikes. I am from Cleveland, born and raised there. I see you are with Smythe, Cramer. How could I have missed that when I posted about the "Downeaster?"

I see your office is on West 25th Street. What seems like hundred years ago, I actually taught at a small Catholic elementary school... I think it was on West 9th Street. St. John Cantius was the name. This post bring back old memories for me, and good ones, too. I taught there for one year, and then at a Catholic Elementary School on the Euclid/Richmond Heights border for eight years... St. Felicitas.

And... for six years in the mid-to-late 70's and barely into the 80's, I was a Smythe, Cramer agent.

How long have you lived in Cleveland? And... how long have you been with Smythe, Cramer ? How have things gone since Howard Hanna came onto the scene ? How have the S/C old-timers taken to that ? Does L.B. McKelvey still run the show ? Good ol' Lucious Blaine McKelvey. I remember him well. I think he ran things from up in Pepper Pike.

And... I lived in Cleveland when Dennis Kucinich was mayor. "The Boy Wonder", they called him.

And... it's a long-shot, but sooner or later I just might have a referral for you from some of the few people I know who still live in Cleveland.
