My real estate office is 32 feet from my house on 69 North Street in Houlton Maine.
And my neighbor Kim who moved here with her husband who is a US Border Patrol agent was a girl scout as a kid.
So from since we sold the family the home next door five years ago, the size of the local girl scout program increased five times!
Today a big truck arrives with pallets of girl scout cookies. Lots of them. The next door neighbor's garage was chalk full of boxes, more boxes of girl scout cookies.
And as the neighbor with connecting driveways, it has been like LAX airport with parents, little girls arriving to pick up boxes..big boxes of girl scout cookies.
In and out and seemingly like the air drop in Haiti, boxes have quickly been put in to the distribution network. Car doors opening, little girls laughing and skipping out of vehicles, moms and dads, big brothers and sisters helping load boxes, and more boxes in to the rear end of pickups, trunks. And as quick as one car leaves, another two arrive for the cookie orders.
You know it's spring is in the air and the close to 50 degree temperatures, strong sunshine and cobalt blue sky giving you a good feeling. All caused because of kids and cookies.
As I did my real estate dog and pony show I thought I should capture a few stills to show you girl scouting is alive and well in Houlton Maine. The big mover, the people's choice used to be thin mints. Neighbor Kim Keehn says those are a close second, but in Houlton Maine the new powerful girl scout cookie top seller is Caramel Delight. I have a particular weakness, have been know to "kill" or polish off a box of the short bread or Trefoils. Every cookie has a mission...to help girls do great things. Meet the cookie.
