Billy Casper Golf and Sun City Shadow Hills has opened a new golf course in Sun City Shadow - Indio, California. The new course comes in conjunction with Del Webb, who is the owner and operator of more than 110 courses in 26 states. This is a man that certainly understands and knows what he is doing. The North Course was opened at Sun City Shadow Hills on February 1, 2010.
The North Course was designed by the award-winning Schmidt-Curley golf-course architecture firm. It is located in the third phase of the Sun City Shadow Hills community that was actually built by Del Webb as well. One upside to the new course is that it was actually constructed to take advantage of more natural plant materials which will in turn consume less water to promote ecologically-friendly agronomic practices.
Golfers will find the course to be turfed with Bermuda grass that is filled with flowering shrubs. If you are looking for a course to whack a ball up and down on, you may want to look elsewhere. The North Course is a par-3 course that is perfect for golfers who want to improve their iron games.
Each hole ranges from just 135 to 210 yards, but it is the varying features that create challenges. There is either a waste bunker or lake that protects every hole creating the need for exact precision on every drive. Around 40 percent of the course is turf with multiple water features, fairway undulations and tee boxes posing challenges for golfers of all levels.
The North Course's operations will be managed in all aspects by BCG just like the 18-hole championship South Course at Shadow Hills is. With this comes management in golf-course and property maintenance, staffing and training, food and beverage, merchandising, golf instruction, special events, marketing and public relations, and financial management.
