By
Real Estate Agent with Erlandson Realty

MISSISSIPPI RIVER, South West Wisconsin's Gateway.

For additional information regarding the MISSISSIPPI RIVER visit Eric Ristey"s web-site , or call Eic Ristey at 1-800-771-4259.

The name mississippi comes from the (ojibae indians) they called the river mee-zee-see-bee, meaning"Father Of The Water" or "Big River".

Growing up in Stoddard, WI population713 (one of the many small quaint MISSISSIPPI RIVER towns here in S/W wI.) You grew up not knowing what you really have. You see it wasn't until I joined the Marine Corp and was stationed out in Southern California that I realized just how special South West WI. really is. The first thing you notice is our four seasons, (yes even winter) and all of the outdoor recreational opportunities that Spring, Summer, Winter, and Fall provide us with.

The MISSISSIPPI RIVER provides a state line for 10 states here in the U.S.

One comment I hear time and time again from first timers on the MISSISSIPPI RIVER , is I didn't know how much fun the river is! The big difference between boating on the river, and boating on a lake is, all you can do on a lake is well, circle around the lake, again and again, and you guessed it again, along with everyone else on that lake. Our MISSISSIPPI RIVER well, start out here, and take a short 50 mile ride in either direction. want to stop and eat lunch, or just relax, here on the MISSISSIPPI RIVER we have miles and miles of unused sand beaches that are just perfect for a afternoon of lounging, or even a weekend of camping, see no one owns the miles and miles of sand bar beaches that you find strolling up and down the MISSISSIPPI RIVER.

Did you know that the length of the MISSISSIPPI RIVER can vary in length 30 to 50 miles every year?

Boating on the MISSISSIPPI RIVER! Here is where growing up on the MISSISSIPPI RIVER was so much fun. From canoes to yachts all watercraft are welcome. I can remember taking out the small flat bottom boat with my friends, and spending the Day at our favorite fishing hole, drinking Mountain Dew, and catching our limit of pan-fish, and saying it doesn't get ant better than this! Or spending the summer day's traveling the miles and  miles of backwaters finding that perfect spot to spend a day swimming and tubing, I can remember all of us thinking, I wonder if any one has ever been here before? We haven't seen another boat all day.

That's the one great thing about working with myself, Eriuc Ristey, or Marty Erlandson we are both natives to this area, and this area has always been home to us. We are truly here to help you find yourselves a great piece of Real Estate, see we believe there is no such thing as strangers, Just friends we haven't met yet!

Did you know that the MISSISSIPPI RIVER is North America's 2nd largest river?

I touched on life growing up on the river, and that there is always something to do on the MISSISSIPPI RIVER , well I am here to tell you, that life on the river is just as much fun as a adult, then it was as a kid. You look forward to spending that all important day off or two on the river with your family and friends. Maybe this is the year all of you decide to rent a house boat or two, and take trip to New Orleans.(try doing that on a lake). You see there is NO such thing as I've seen the river, NO you see the river and the scenery change every-day. The MISSISSIPPI RIVER is home to over 400 different types of wildlife. Ducks, geese, cranes, herons, tundrea swans, egrets, white pelicans, andour old friend the "Bald Eagle" are among some of the wildlife that call this area home.he bald eagle population along the MISSISSIPPI RIVER is the 3rd largest in the nation, only Alaska and Florida have more.

A portrait of the American Bald Eagle.

Dis you know that water skiing was invented in 12 on the MISSISSIPPI RIVER , a part of the river known as Lake Pepin, Lake Pepin is in Buffalo County, located between Minnesota and Wisconsin.

If you enjoy fishing, the MISSISSIPPI RIVER is home to the finest fishing one can do anywhere. Growing up here we would hold our own fishing tournaments. A group of friends would get together then draw pairs by picking a 1 or a 2, we would pair up, and then someone would draw two types of fish out of a hat, and that was the fish we had to catch for the tourney. No big deal, there are 260 different species of fish that call the MISSISSIPPI RIVER home. All you can hope for is that you brought the right gear and bait.

Another MISSISSIPPI RIVER fun fact: A raindrop falling into Lake Itaska takes about 90 days to reach the Gulf Of Mexico.

What to do on those HOT summer days, do what we do, there is nothing more fun than a "GET AWAY DAY" on the water. Some swim, float, and just kick back, while others prefer skiing, tubing, wake boarding, or kayaking the waters of the MISSISSIPPI RIVER. South West WI is home to the drift-lessarea, the area that the glaciers never came through. So we have been blessed with beautiful sand stone bluffs, andhuge one of a kind  rock outcroppings that can be seen when cruising up and down the MISSISSIPPI RIVER, better yet some people are fortunate enough to call these bluffs home. They own what we feel is our best kept secret a piece of real estate with a view of the MISSISSIPPI RIVER. There are many types of river views, and both Marty Erlandson, and Eric Ristey have a great knowledge of what types of views are out there, and why they are the way they are. We will take the time to educate you "our client" on river-views, you see they are not alot different than a lake front lot. Not all river view acreages are alike, and not all are as easy to build on as another, so you need to trust someone who has helped many people up anddown the river, find the right view, and help them with the building of their home. You see growing up here and being a native to the area, we know who the good contractors are, and better yet, we know the ones to stay away from.

WOW

Did you know that "Judy garland grew up on a historic lumber town in Minnesota names Grand Rapids, which lies along the Great River Road. Her childhood home is open to the public.

How can you write about the MISSISSIPPI RIVER and not talk about the Upper Mississippi River Wildlife and Fish Refuge. Two hundred sixty one miles of refuge, the longest refuge in the continental United States. This sanctuary starts near Wabasha, Mn and ends near Rock Island, IL. The MISSISSIPPI RIVER was free flowing until a series of locks and damns were constructed in the 1930's by the Corp Of engineers, and today 240,000 acres of marshes, back waters, and wooded islands comprise this refuge.
