This month...I am all about Spring Cleaning! Join me in Clearing the Clutter this month and you'll be glad you did. Our environment impacts our energy! My travelling and speaking life means my home is often a hotel room! And while many will say the road warrior life is trying, my gypsy blood loves the variety. When we were in Hawaii in January at Kona Village, the Polynesian hut (or hale in Hawaiian) that we stayed in was so ascetically pleasing...I noticed my energy upon waking was different: impacted by the simplicity and beauty. My mind was clearer, more focused and more creative. I know the Feng Shui people and staging precepts all echo this.
We have lived in the same house for 27 years (not that longevity is any excuse) and I to confess to being a packrat who lives with a collector of anything useful (this is a man who will bring what he deems "good" stuff home from the dump run!). I know re-using and re-purposing is suddenly in vogue these days, there is a point when it makes more sense to put things back into circulation for others or just plain throw things away. It's time to make a shift! I have already given away bags and bags to Goodwill. I've enlisted Lily in going through her tapes and videos, her stuffed animal and toys and we've even taken to Julia and Ricky or given them away! Her school just had a rummage sale, so we donated.
I feel like my work has just begun. I am asking myself with everything around me:
•· Do I need this?
•· Do I like this?
•· Does this represent me today or my past?
•· Why am I keeping this?
In my office: I have always found when I clear out the file cabinets and make room for new business, it comes! I am making LOTS of room! In the same way I don't need my Algebra book from school to operate today, Any real estate training over 3 years old is simply outdated. I am throwing out tapes & training materials, old manuals, overheads and reference materials from the 80's & 90's. Trading in or giving away LOTS of books! I can download them if I need them in the future. Old files I don't need are getting trashed, not saved.
When I am done, there's going to be a wonderful feeling of a nurturing and creative space to work in, rather than piles that tire me just walking into the office!
The rest of the house, including my closet, is also getting tackled. I don't need 12 mismatched coffee cups or 37 spices that are probably way past freshness! I'm taking it little by little. One cabinet or room on a given day.
Actions you can take:
My March Freebie to download is the Clean Sweep AssessmentTM. The first 25 questions on the CleanSweep concern your environment. Honestly answer and then pick 5 that you will handle this month! (if they are all checked...good for you!)

ANOTHER RESOURCE I RECOMMEND: I was introduced to the work of Sue Rasmussen by my wonderful daughter, Coco Fossland. Coco experienced life changing shifts last year in part by her implementation of Sue's work. Here is what Sue says," The real source of the clutter is the thoughts, beliefs, and fears (the very MINDSET) that keep people holding on to their stuff, because those are also the very same thoughts, beliefs, and fears that are running EVERY area of their life. Yes, the very same mindsets that are blocking them from business success, stealing their time and energy, and even keeping them from finding their own passion in life."
Sue is just plain brilliant at helping people with their clutter! You can sample this with her March F*REE Teleclass: Flooded with Paper, Email, and Files?
