Real Estate...Only good on TV?

By
Real Estate Agent with Cooper & Associates Real Estate

Real Estate is my passion.  I love every aspect of my Real Estate career.  It's funny that even when I get home from a long day at the office, I relax by watching shows about Real Estate.  There's just so much on.  I used to be satisfied watching Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.  But with the magic of TiVo, I can view the shows on A&E, HGTV, TLC and Fine Living.  Shows like: Flip This House, Flip That House, The Real Estate Pros, Property Ladder, and even Real Estate Confidential entertains me.

After watching some of these shows, it's hard not to get excited about Real Estate all over again.  It gets me pumped up to go out there and find such deals for my clients.  But are they out there?   After learning of the character of one of the "Real Estate Investors" on one of these shows, it shows me that even reality TV may not be real.  I found out a few months back from an Active Rainer blog that Sam Leccima who was on the A&E show, "Flip This House", allegedly did not sell the homes he renovated on the show.  You can see the Atlanta news report on Sam Leccima, here

Nonetheless, I still watch.  Then I started watching another show called, "Property Ladder".  This one was very interesting to me.  It basically features novice flippers/investors and veteran Real Estate investor/flipper, Kirsten Kemp, who hosts the show.  She listens to the newbies' ideas and offers her suggestions.  It's up to them if they listen or not.  The first show I see is an episode called, "The Friendship Flip Fiasco".  This episode was unbelievable!  For those who saw it, please comment!  For those of you who didn't see it, I don't want to ruin it but I'll give you a synopsis of the episode.  This guy named Sergio who claims to have been in the Real Estate industry for 3 years, wants to take his longtime friend, Robert, under his wing and teach him how to make money flipping property.  Their business plan/strategy was a joke.  They did things half-a** and in my honest opinion, Sergio should be investigated for the stuff he pulled on this house.

Then there's this show called "Real Estate Confidential" where it highlights a Realtor® and devotes the episode to one of their transactions.

I think there should be one channel for all these shows to be on.  We can call it RETV!  Not to be confused with RETV or the other RETV but just like MTV stands for Music Television (by the way, what happened to all the music videos on MTV...I think they only show videos in the morning) RETV will be Real Estate Television.  Real Estate all the time.

Does anybody else watch these shows?  What do you think?  Like 'em?  Hate 'em?  Let me know.

Nineteen years of excellence!
I haven't seen any of them but I love those kind of shows. We watch them because we love our work and perhaps as Rondel said we can learn some great tips. Thanks Danielle

One show about real estate I find myself watching lately is "Buy Me".  It's interesting to watch other people of your own profession and think of how you would of handled that scenario or what you would have done differently.

So true.  I am truely a nice guy, but I honestly enjoy the shows where the people fail miserably.  It's like watching a car accident in slow motion with play by play the entire way.  Thanks for your comment on my blog.  http://activerain.com/blogsview/198665/Everyone-wants-to-be

Chris, wish you the very best.
