Location Really Does Matter

We were incredibly fortunate to be able to spend a week on Maui. Talk about LOCATION! I suppose if you lived or worked on Maui there would be places that are more desirable than others. Certainly ocean front would be a contender. Although we were flying there at the same time "the tsunami that wasn't" was churning up 2 foot waves. In case of a real tsunami, I would guess that ocean front wouldn't be nearly as desirable as mountain high. However, no matter how undesirable the Maui location may seem to a local, it is still MAUI!

Fast forward to a week later. It's Indiana and location is entirely different. Everything in life must be taken in context and real estate location is no different. I see lots and houses and commerecial or retail property every day that sells at a premium or a discount due to just one thing...location.

My advice to consumers and agents alike is to know YOUR location. Know your neighborhoods, your "farms", your marketplaces, your market. If you are an agent you will be in an optimal position to serve your clients well. If you are a consumer you will save or make many thousands of dollars more than a less educated consumer would.

I know it's an old joke, a cliche. But it often does come down to location, location, location. Maui or Indiana. Sometimes the more things are different, the more they are the same.

We were just talking to commercial developers and they will not touch anything that is not a Class A location so you are totally correct.

Lisa, isn't Maui wonderful?  And you do make a great point about that old real estate cliche!

Lisa, Great advice.  So many come to Naples with misconceptions as to cost of living on the water, effects of the water and traffic, time spent on the beach once you live here, value.  and on and on.

Lisa--Great way to capture attention and get your message across.  Hawaii is on our vacation wish list.  What was your favorite part of the trip?

I haven't ever been to any of the Islands of Hawaii, but it sure sounds great as the snow melts...

Hawaii is wonderful, of course. I have only been to Oahu (stayed on the North Shore, Turtle Bay Resort) and to Maui X 3. On Maui I have stayed in Ka'anapali and Wailea (Wailea Marriott X2). I love the diversity of the landscape on Maui and it is very difficult to give my favorite. I would recommend going during whale season, however, if at all possible. They are incredible creatures and being able to walk down the road or drive down the road and see mountains on one side of you and whales on the other side is just really a peak experience.

I also love all of the art on Maui. Lahaina has wonderful galleries, but where we bought was in Pa'ia at Paia Contemporary Gallery. They're great there!
