The Silver Linings of Stormy Showings - It's all about the Rain!

Stormy Sky

I awoke to grey sky, wind blowing, rain sheeting down, and today, I'm showing houses. You might say, "Oh no! Schedule for another time..." But this is Oregon, and if I did that...well, you can only imagine I'd have to find a new career.

Mailmen have nothing on me!

The fact is, I actually LOVE showing homes under these conditions. Sure, I get a little damp. I even might begin to resemble a racoon when my mascara runs, or Sasquatch when my hair explodes into a frazzled mess, but remember this isn't about me. It's never about me.

I have found the best way to discover how a house functions in heavy rain is to go visit it in heavy rain. You can learn a lot about a house when you see how it "handles its drink," so to speak. Drainage, gutters, roofs, all get to show their stuff, for good or for bad, when the rain comes down.

Yippee! Thank you Mother Nature!

My clients appreciate my enthusiam to show them homes during the rain and assume I have fins and gills. But really, I just have a trusty pair of polka dot rubber boots, a rainproof jacket, and umbrella... They always become excited along with me, about looking at homes in the rain, once I tell them we will be able to gather additional information about the place that they wouldn't be able to witness first hand.

It truly is the Silver Lining of Showing when you are Active during the Rain.

I never thought of it that way, looking at a home in the rain.  Your thought process shows how much you care about giving your customers the great service they deserve.  You gotta love Oregon!  Have a great day.

We have had the wettest, coldest winter in 30 years here in the South. Some of my buyers have a hard time seeing a wet yard and realizing it is not usually this way. They automatically think there are major drainage problems. Thank goodness the summer will soon be here to dry everything up ( but then, of course, we will complain because we need rain!)

Nannette, we were supposed to have a huge storm today but so far it's dry!  And you're right.  I once showed a place in a downpour, and we discovered the roof was leaking like a colander!  Those buyers really thanked me.

Thanks for the great feedback, Mike.

Interesting take on having more rain than you are used to, there in the South. The weather has been very strange this year. I was in Florida for their "dry season" and experienced torrential rain.

Pat, I hope you kept your day dry. Loved your story of showing in the rain. It can be a good thing.

My hair went Sasquatch today...it was really pouring...but we did our showings.

I appreciate everyone's comments.

SOLD IS NEVER HAVING TO SAY YOU'RE SORRY

Your post reminds of the time I showed lake homes on my boat, a pontoon with a cover that did nothing to keep us dry, the rain was blowing in anyway as we sped down the lake, the wetter we got the more we laughed, you see my buyers wanted to see the homes we had visited the day before from the water perspective before they made their decision. They traveled hundreds of miles to come to my area to buy a lake home. They only had a few days to accomplish their mission. We had a ball and a bonding experience laughing and cutting up like kids, it pays to get overselves and just have a good time doing what we love. Going That Extra Mile means really means Going That Extra Mile

Sally, you sound like my kind of person! I really enjoyed hearing about this adventure. I had similar with clients with a tight time frame. It really can be a bonding time and you just have to roll with everything. What a great agent to take them to see homes on a boat. Right on, Skipper Sally! :-)
