I would suggest going to the newbie group listed on the GROUPS tab at the top menu bar. They will show you some things with this site and how to get your feet wet. Whatever you do don't stop blogging and welcome Julie!

Welcome to AR!  What I would suggest is to read as many postings as you can to get an idea of what other people on here write about.  Then add your two cents worth in.  As the Gasset's said above, write about what moves you.  Do remember that what you write and post is out there and will stay out there!

Hi Julie, Welcome to Active Rain!  Just hop in and write.  It will all come together.  :)

Go to a blogger you like and to the right you will see right above the photo of the blogger a sign that says, Subscribe to this blog. Click on it. When you go to your home page and click blogs, you will see the ones your are subscribing to on the right side of your page. You can check back there, I do a couple of times a day to see if anyone posted a new post. You can see the date of the last post under their photo there on your page. Then I go right to them and comment on their post. This is how you start relationships with others. Give and you will get. Comment on blogs and in turn people will comment on yours. Hope this helps.
