The Sectional That Ate Seattle!

By
Real Estate Agent with Dove Realty Inc.

Sectional couches are wonderful.  They are big enough for your whole family, including the 4 footed members, and after Thanksgiving dinner, three or four people can pass out at the same time.  But when it comes to selling your house, sometimes a sectional can just be too much of a good thing.

That was the case with this house.  The sectional ate up almost the entire living room and took the focus off the beautiful fireplace.

 What's the solution?

  • First, I got rid of the corner piece & set up the remaining one armed couches facing each other.
  •  I put a little side table at each armless end and nobody seemed to notice.
  • It created a much more intimate space, almost like an inglenook.
  • This allowed the fireplace to take center stage.

The house sold in 5 days, so all's well that ends well!

Susan!  It looks so much better.  The room looks larger and the fireplace stands out.  Some of these sectionals are so big. You did a great job.

Hi Susan,  What a great success story!  Sectionals can be wonderful, for the many reasons you mentioned, but too often they are sandwiched into rooms for which they are just too large.  I'm glad you could separate the sectional to make two "just right" sized sofas.  You also sucessfully de-cluttered this room, so now we can see the beautiful structural details, not all the "stuff".

Susan you're selling this job short.  YOU did a lot more than just make this sectional work for the room.  Now the room has a more peaceful and less crowded feeling, plus classy decor without the clutter.  Bravo again!

Susan,

It looks so much better now!  The room looks much larger since the entertainment center and the full book cases are gone.  Great job!

This is INSANELY good!  You made this home look SOOOO much bigger and more inviting!  Yes, the sectional was "eating up" not only Seattle, but valuable square footage as well!

I was just in a home that had the biggest sectional I've ever seen, and it was the first thing you saw when you walked in.  It was a big distraction.  Great use taking apart to be more functional.

What a wonderful transformation.  We should call you the sectional slayer!  I've had a number of clients with these horrible monsters.  Your solution was brilliant.

Beautiful job of reclaiming this space from that awful creature.

Was it your handy work or did it eat the shelving and books and clutter before it left?

Nice job of taming that beast Susan.

Susan, you made a vast difference in this room by paring down the behemoth sectional, thereby shifting the focus from that side of the room to the fireplace wall.  You also did a great job with the other wall that was covered in bookshelves.  Congratulations!

First of all I'd like to thank all of you for your kind comments.

Kathy: Thanks again for the feature. I love Before and Afters!

Liz:My wonderful client followed my instructions to a tee. In 48 hours she sold all of her "extra stuff" on Craigslist. Since her living room was long and narrow, I sandwiched my demi-lune table between her 2 remaining bookcases to create a vignette and balance the space.
