This last week Nucor Steel opened their doors in the old North Star Steel building off I-40. It was only a partial opening as they are looking to increase the number of employees and increase the amount of production in the next couple of years but it shows that industry is looking to expand and that is always a good sign that the economy will improve.
According to the local Kingman newspaper, Rocher Deboule Minerals has plans to open a manganese mine south and east of Kingman soon. Manganese is used in the manufacture of steel and most of the manganese that the U.S. uses comes from other countries, China mainly. From what the company is saying, about 100 people would be employed at first. If all goes well, there is a possibility that the company would open a refining plant at the site. That means more jobs for Mohave residents and more tax dollars coming in.
Kingman opened a new hospital this last fall and there have been several restaurants and new businesses opened in 2009 and the beginning of 2010, it would be a good time to relocate. There is still the carrot of the extended tax credit for first time homebuyers as well as for buyers that want to move up. If there is a contract on a home and the home closes before June 1, buyers are eligible for this credit.
Thinkng of moving? Try Kingman, Arizona. Still a rural lifestyle with some of the amenities of larger towns.
