Uxbridge - It's Official - Spring like weather has arrived

The weather man on the radio declared winter officially over today .

Keep Your Children Away From Swollen Streams and Rivers

The Water Levels in rivers and stream around Uxbrige have risen dramatically with the warm spring like weather of the last few days. If we receive the anticipated showers over the next few days they will rise much higher and faster as the rain combines with the melting snow. With the ground still frozen the water quickly forms into rivulets running into the streams and rivers that abound in and around Uxbridge.

Water in local rivers can rise overnight into dangerous torrents as can be seen in Dangerous Waters Abound. The river in our yard has already risen several inches today.

Pictured here is the normal summer flow of about 3 to 4 inches in depth over the dam.

Right now it is 6 to 8 inches higer

One of three Dams used to control the water level for Peers mill

The water level behind the dam has risen almost two feet in the last few days right now it is halfway between the level in the picture and the underside of the bridge across the dam

Barrie,

I never thought of the creeks in Uxbridge heading towrads Lake Simcoe.

However, light winter or not, we often have a snowstorm in late March and often another one in early April.

Brian - the oak ridge moraine runs through Uxbridge just south of town it .... is the headwaters for streams running both north and south  ..... as such it was a wise decision on the part of the province to protect the moraine from further development.

Hi Barrie....Thanks for Kathy's post, looks like Kathy has taken this post over..so let me get this right, you have your own River, Your Own Dam and is that a Rail Way bridge over the Dam, do you have a train too and maybe generate your own hydro electricity..no wonder you are retired from Real Estate :O)) Oh you won't happened to have an Oil well too :O)

Fred - Actually the dam and bridge are on our neighbours property, right at the corner of ours, we just consider it "ours" to view as it is at our backdoor.

The bridge is a foot bridge and I would love to be able to generate my own power but since we don't own the dam I am ot of luck there. The dam was built to provide water for a historical mill about a 1/4 of a mile away and one of these days the owner may choose to redirect the water back towards the mill to generate his own power.
