How Many Sites Do You Syndicate To?

By

One of the questions I am most often asked is "How many sites do you syndicate to?"  However, I think the more appropriate question to ask would be "Which of the major Syndication Portals do you submit too?"  Syndication is topic that continues to both burn in intensity as well as increase in popularity, and with it, comes confusion the over new sites entering the market as well as how your listings are actually getting from point A to point B.

For example, when a site says that they syndicate your listings to the classified sections Facebook or MySpace, does that mean Facebook is getting your listings directly from them, or from another site that they are syndicating too?  If you said "another site", then give yourself a gold star. In the case of the Facebook and MySpace, Oodle.com is the primary portal that is used to reach both of those sites.  In truth, there are about 20 major portals that are used to reach the 100 or so others, but you would not know this since most of the sites out there don't give credit to the networks they are using.

Below is a listing of what I know the be the current portals and their known networks(meaning that the information was found somewhere on their website). Please feel free to offer suggestions or corrections. I want to be sure to keep the information rooted in fact, so please include references where possible.

But first, let me address some of the ghosts that are still hanging out there.

  • Edgeio.com - According to their website, edgeio was acquired by Vast and Looksmart in December 2007
  • Homescape.com - Is now HomeFinder.com
  • PropSmart.com - For months, this site has been a dead link, but now, at the moment I am writing this, the site is live once again.

The Primary Syndication Portals as of March 14, 2010

US I need to verify if they are still accepting feeds.   They apparently used to have some part in the HomeGain network, which included Moving.com and Apartments.com, but it appears that their relationship with them may have changed.
