Offering free home staging advice

By
Home Stager with Academy of Staging and Redesign

I'm often asked by agents if they should give advice to sellers about how to stage their homes. They aren't interested in becoming home stagers themselves, but recognize the importance of staging. Many sellers can't afford to pay a home stager, but they are willing to do some or all of the actual work themselves to save money - they just need some advice. So agents are looking for some basic training in this area to give them confidence.

Heretofore agents had to attend a pricey seminar or class to learn how to advise their clients. Well, that can be expensive and time consuming. But now they can get the training from a handy guide. It doesn't replace the services of professional stagers but does give enough guidance to inspire agents to talk about staging and give informative, authoritative advice with confidence.

A new book on the subject gives more extensive information on this subject at A Real Estate Agent's Guide to Offering Free Home Staging Consultations. Ā

I think every listing agent should do absolutely everything they can do to guide their sellers on how to present the property to the best advantage. I am not an interior designer nor a home stager and would not pretend to be. But if my seller can't afford a stager or designer I can at least advise on cleaning and decluttering!

That's great, Lisa. Most agents don't know the design concepts that can make a world of difference in addition to the basics of cleaning, repairs and decluttering. This new book, geared just for agents, discusses all these issues, including design and home styles and how to take the right kinds of after pictures to show off the home.
