Facebook "Games". Could you waste your time in any other way?
When you have nothing to do, nothing to do apparently matters.....take it from Bob...who has better things to do....
If you're like me, you probably spent a lot of time on Facebook marketing yourself and selling houses. If you're not on Facebook, you're missing an excellent resource for real estate marketing and farming. But that's another discussion.
I noticed recently that one of my competitors is on Facebook a lot. But they aren't on Facebook talking to people or posting their Active Rain blogs. They're on there playing Farmville. And you can tell from all their Farmville postings that they play the game a lot. Now, there is nothing wrong with enjoying yourself with things like Facebook Farmville or other Facebook games. I checked it out one time and thought it looked kind of interesting. But I quickly concluded that Farmville was more like real work than fun for me. Fun for me is time spent with an old fashioned pinball machine or fishing or things like that.
Farmville is one of those games that you have to go back and "tend". You have to take care of the crops, build fences and do all kinds of things. And when you accomplish something, it is posted on Facebook for all your friends to see. Okay, that's fine. But when your Farmville postings are all I'm seeing of you on Facebook, then I begin to wonder about your business...at least if you are in business and your Facebook Farmville notifications pop up all day long.
I often wonder why real estate professionals would be playing Farmville when they could be running market reports, posting blogs, talking to people, expanding their business or building a fan page? The answer might be because they don't understand how things like market reports, facebook and blogging can bring potential business.
If you're big into Farmville, can I give you a suggestion? Quit today and go out everyday and hand out five business cards to five people you don't know.
And how about this? Instead of planting crops, why don't you write a blog about the crops in the fields in your area? Or if you live in the city, how about featuring a blog about a local business? The real dollars you'll get back will blow away Farmville rewards!
Here's another idea. Post your open houses on Facebook or set up a Postlets and post it. You did know that Postlets and Active Rain are now showing up on the top of searches in Google, didn't you?
Okay, one last idea. Take all that Farmville time and start reading blogs here at Active Rain. Make sure you check out Jason Crouch, Loreena Yeo, TLW and of course, Lenn Harley. You might just find that you get inspired to get back in the real estate game instead of the Farmville game.
