Carolina Hurricanes Fundraiser- my night of hobnobbing with the Rich & Famous

By
Real Estate Agent with Raleigh Cary Realty

One thing I love about being a Realtor is that you never know what the day or the weekend will bring. On Saturday morning I thought I'd have all weekend to clean the house and work on the yard. But by Saturday evening I was writing a Offer to Purchase for a lovely lady in Cary until after 8pm.

Upon waking up on Sunday, I thought I would busy myself with a little cleaning while I was waiting for the sellers reply to the offer.

Then, out of the blue, one of my clients/ friends call me to invite me to a "formal" event that evening.

The Carolina Hurricanes hockey team was holding their annual fundraiser for the Kids n Community Foundation.  This was to be the Hurricanes largest fundraiser of the year, a Casino Night & Wine Tasting event with silent auctions and a live auction. All the Hurricanes hockey players would be there acting as Casino dealers and meeting the guests.

I dug out my formal wear, spent the day trying to get my nail polish on right, and off we went to hobnob with the rich (all the guests, as tickets were $200 each) and famous (the hockey players!)

Ice sculpture

A huge ice sculture greeted us as we entered the floor of the RBC Center Arena. Notice the colossal shrimp under the ice?

The theme was Western night, so the band played country music while the guests gambled with play money.

After partaking of the wonderful appetizers, and enjoying some of the wine tasting, we attempted to turn some of the $1000 in play money that we received into chips and gamble withrod Brind'Amour the players.

Here Rod Brind'Amour, former captain of the Hurricanes, deals a mean hand of Black Jack.

Chad Larose, Right Winger for the Hurricanes was gracious enough to pose with my friends Denise & Jasmin (former client)

The live auction closed out the evening.  The prizes being auctioned started with a Day in the Coaches Shoes.  They had 25 available, and 25 men rushed up to the stage to pay the winning bid of $250 each for the day. (I guess they were tired of being just "armchair coaches")

Other cool days with the Hurricanes were being auctioned off as well, including a try out with the team ($3100)  and the final prize, an away game trip with the team, where the winner would fly with the team, enjoy the day practice, watch the game, hotel accomodations, etc.  That prize went for $16,000!.

Of course all of this money was donated to the Kids N Community Foundation by the Carolina Hurricanes.

"With the ongoing support of Hurricanes players and corporate sponsors, the Kids ‘N Community Foundation funds many causes including scholarship programs, youth hockey, educational and literacy efforts, health programs, and the arts."

How cool was it to meet a bunch of these talented, good looking young men from the Hurricanes while we were waiting for the elevator?

Thanks to the Carolina Hurricanes team and organization for their terrific fundraising event and their generous support of the Raleigh Community.
