Commission Based dilemma!

Frustrated

Public Awareness is needed in the Houston Real Estate market!

Here is my experience: Being licensed in a few states it boggles my mind how the public here in Houston thinks that we (Us Realtors) get paid a salary.  I have had scades people call and tell me to show them a house because their Realtor is on vacation or their Realtor was lazy and sent them to the listing agent.

Example: I had a call where the prospect called me and asked to see a house.  I asked if she was working with a realtor and she said yes but she is out of town.  I explained to her that i had no incentive to show the home because I am not the listing agent nor her buyers agent.  She said well it is your company's listing you should show it to me any how.  I explained that i am commission based independant contractor. She got testy with me and said she is going to report me to my broker because i would not run out and show her a house.

I find that Houston has a loyalty problem and I am not sure where that comes from.  I feel all of us have to get that buyer broker agreement upfront and educate the public how our services are broken down especially with the New Home Buyers.

We can't build relationships with this assumption on the streets.

Hey Mary Beth, I just posted on the importance of documentation regarding the Buyer's Agreement.  I live in The Woodlands so we are practically neighbors.  We as agents just must continue to educate the public on how we work.  Good luck to you!
