Tomball TX German Festival 2010The 10th Annual Tomball German Heritage Festival will be taking place on March 26th through the 28th.  The 19thCentury saw a big influx of immigrants from Germany and Austria to the Tomball area.  They created a community and this is the time to come and celebrate the German heritage that flows through the area.  The celebration is always held the last weekend of March and has become a tradition.

The event will take place in the historic downtown section of Tomball, near the 200 block of Main street (FM 2920) and Market Street.  The wonderful thing about his celebration is that it is FREE!!    Admission to the event and parking are both free of charge.

There will be 4 stages of live musical entertainment, a number of food booths,  street vendors, dealers of antiques, a German heritage center and of course a selection of beer.  The carnival will open on Friday evening March 26th and remain open through Sunday.

Tomball TX German heritage festivalPerformers will include Alpenfest and Chris Rybak. Alpenfest is the busiest German band in Texas.  The bands instruments include four 13-foot Swiss Alphorns, a tuned set of Austrian cowbells, a German xylophone, tuned musical handsaws, and yodeling vocalist.

The festival resumes at 10:00 Saturday morning with the "tapping of the keg" and Willkommen ceremony for German exchange students and Tomball host families, and official opening by the Mayor of Tomball Gretchen Fagan.  Saturday evening will end with a fireworks display that will start at 9:00 PM.    This will take place at the historic and newly restored Tomball Depot; next to the railroad tracks along Elm Street.

On Sunday morning at 10:00 AM;  Brother Christian Tiews of St. Louis (formerly a Tomball resident) will conduct a German-language church service.  This will begin another day of celebration which will end at 6:00 Sunday evening.

This is really interesting, Marchel.  I would have NEVER guessed you would have had a GERMAN enclave in the Houston area from long ago.  You are a very long way from the heavy German settlements in the upper Mid-West.  Please do a blog on how it turns out!

Very cool, my Mom is coming up to San Antonio perhaps that weekend and leaving her Hubby in Kingwood, I'll suggest he and his friends go to this event and enjoy the beer.

SONJA, It is a fun event. It is also FREE; great place to take the family!

BRUCE, We have a HUGE German influence in our area.  Many of our roads have German names.

MELISSA, There's plenty of beer to enjoy and no price for admission!

GEORGE, I was in NYC when they had an Italian festival.  It was fun but my feet were hurting.  Isn't it funny the things you remember (lol).

DALE, Weather permitting we will try to go.  I bought a wonderful garden statue a few years ago.

ANN, Free is good and there are not many free celebrations out there.

LYNDA, In this day and age it is fun to find free family events.

Hi Marchel.......reminds me of a small town in North Georgia called Helen.  The entire town is Bavarian, very pretty with lots of authentic food and beer.  A beautiful river runs through the area.......just lovely.  You get around quite a bit, you might have already visited :-)  Wishing you a terrific weekend.
