Military Support Groups
Know a military family or veteran? Want to help? Here are just a few of the great military support organizations in the area. If you're going to be stationed at Fort Bragg or Seymour-Johnson, check these out. Or consider volunteering, and making a difference.
Armed Services YMCA -
YMCA Military Outreach Initiative-Respite Child Care Services
The YMCA Military Outreach Initiative offers respite child care services for children whose parent or guardian needs temporary respite from their role as primary caregiver in the absence of a deployed spouse. The care is intended for children who are infants (or youngest age permitted at the participating YMCA) up to 12 years of age (or oldest age permitted at the participating YMCA).
Eligible military families and personnel include:
- Families of joint deployed Army National Guard and Reservists of all military branches
- Families of Active Duty Independent Duty personnel
- Relocated spouses and family members of deployed Active Duty personnel
- Families of deployed Active Duty personnel, who are geographically dispersed outside a 30-mile radius from a military installation.
Operation Homefront
Operation Homefront provides support on a wide variety of levels, including support for new parents.
Assistance includes help with food, auto repair, communication devices, furniture, moving assistance, vision care, homefront celebrations, home and appliance repair, holiday programs, community events, wounded warrier wives, and much more. Donations or volunteers are welcome. Current needs are posted on the site.
Wounded Warrior Project
The mission of the Wounded Warrior Project is to honor and empower wounded warriors.
- To raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women,
- To help severely injured service members aid and assist each other, and
- To provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of severely injured service members.
TAPS
TAPS provides ongoing emotional help, hope, and healing to all who are grieving the death of a loved one in military service to America, regardless of relationship to the deceased, geography, or circumstance of the death. TAPS meets its mission by providing peer-based support, crisis care, casualty casework assistance, and grief and trauma resources.
Homes for Our Troops
Help build a home for your local hero - Homes for Our Troops is a volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to providing homes free of charge to severely wounded soldiers. Help by donating land, materials, equipment, supplies, trades, or labor.
