Along with the gentle March breezes quickly blowing through Orange Beach, the spring-breakers are also arriving in town. Once the University of Alabama, Auburn University and Mississippi State University begin weeklong recesses, the Spring Break Season kicks off in Orange Beach.
According to Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft, advance reservations for late spring and early summer are strong and every indication is things are going to go well. This has brought much needed optimism that this year will be a busy one. Over the last several years Orange Beach has witnessed a decline in visitors since its peak in 2007 with an estimated 275,000 visitors to Baldwin County's beaches.
April 10-18 is expected to be a busy week for Orange Beach since the public schools in Baldwin and Mobile counties and several other Alabama districts recess.
Although the week will conclude the spring-break season, beach businesses will be looking forward to big weekends before Memorial Day with the band Widespread Panic playing two nights at The Wharf Amphitheater in Orange Beach on May 7 and 8. Also, we can’t forget about the Hangout Beach, Music & Arts Festival that is expected to draw daily crowds of more than 30,000 to Gulf Shores' public beach.
