Flag of the Batallón de San Patricio
Saint Patrick's Day in Mexico also celebrates a group of heroes from the Mexican-American War of 1846 to 1948. The Batallón de San Patricio was formed mainly of Irish immigrants along with Canadians, English, French, Germans, Italians, Poles, Scots, Spaniards, Swiss. The San Patricios were some of the fiercest soldiers faced by the US Army and following their capture were hanged in mass in San Angel, Mixcoac and Chapultepec (Mexico City). They are honored on September 12 and March 17 in Mexico.
