You are stranded out on a deserted island.
The plane you crash landed in can still fly but just barely. The island was a military drop a long time ago and has a 50 gallon tank of usable gas. There is also a 3 gallon can empty and a 5 gallon can empty. There are no marks on the can. The problem is the plane needs exactly 4 gallons of gas to make it to the mainland airport. If there is to much you will crash on take off, if there is to little you will crash into the rocky shoreline before the airport. So how do you get exactly four gallons of gas?
