It's been a long, not-so-pretty winter. Now that the temperatures are soaring, let's whip the streets of Philadelphia back into shape. The 2010 Philly Spring Cleanup is looking for volunteers and ideas for beautification and cleanup projects, so lend a hand and be a part of the cleaning crew. This year's anti-litter effort will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010 (rain date, Saturday, April 17, 2010). The Philly Cleanup site has a map of projects, updated daily. Sign up in your area and you'll see the benefits immediately. Even better, if you're a RecycleBank member, you'll receive 50 bonus RecycleBank points if you're one of the first 1000 volunteers to sign up. Can't participate? You can make a donation to the event, which will help pay for paint, brooms, gloves, and garbage bags. This equipment, along with bottled water, will be provided for all that sign up.
The last two years brought out over 21,000 volunteers and they picked up 3.25 million pounds of trash, with over 4,100 blocks cleaned. Those are impressive stats, but here's to topping that this year.
