More opinions than you want to hear about.

Congress's health care reform is not about health care at all.  It is about health insurance and the fact that it does not cover (gouge) all Americans.  Just what is health insurance?  Health insurance is a mechanism whereby an overcharge of premium (ransom for health care being held hostage) is divided into three parts.  One part goes to insurance company expenses, one part goes to profit, and one part to a pool of money.  The pool of money is used to pay the overcharges made by clinics, hospitals, doctors, and drug companies.  Somehow, our federal government feels that increasing the pool of money will make everything better.  Health insurance, before alleged reform, or after, is not the solution.  It is the problem.  Without the health insurance thugs collecting ransom from its victims, health care providers would have a much harder time extracting their overcharges from us.  For the benefit of all Americans, health insurance should be prohibited by law.

Mike, I agree with you, but for none of your stated reasons.  Health Insurance companies are doing EXACTLY what is asked of them.  They aren't greedy or evil.  The problem has come about because they no longer sell "insurance", but rather they are just a payment plan for health care.

Major Medical (catastrophic plans) are actually insurance.  Combine that with MSA (or HSA) and that is the basis of a good system.  The next piece of the puzzle is empowering people to make decisions, rather than leaving it up to governments or insurance companies.  Finally, making sure that people actually have a reason to watch the cost will ensure that consumers pay attention to the bill.

As it stands now, consumers get the same bill whether treatment is $100 or $1m.

I just got into this post after the bill was passed.  The bill is going to change not only our health insurance, but how we think of our government.

Government takeover of healthcare would be a great thing. Just copy Canada's system and go with it!

But, sadly, this heath-care reform bill is anything but a government takeover -- it's a insurance lobby's wet dream come true, forcing everybody to buy health care and doing nothing to control costs.
