When I first moved to Taos, New Mexico almost 10 years ago I was charmed by the adobe homes dotting the terrain. There is so much romance in living in an adobe house. Mud formed adobes are just so earthy, right? I soon found out that there were several construction methods that produced an "adobe look" home. Many were framed and stucco. Some were pumice constructed and stucco. Others were straw bale or or rastra, e-crete or rammed earth. But all were charming to me with their flat roofs, kiva fireplaces and plastered interior walls. Here are some pictures of the adobe (and faux adobe homes) that bask in our beautiful high desert terrain.
