Color / Black & White composites are a common tricktechnique used in many portrait studios. I've always thought that it makes for a very striking image.
I'm sure there are many software tools that make this possible, but my favorite is Nikon's Capture NX2. I can literally finish this composite conversion in less than 30 seconds.
Once I had the image open in NX2, I first selected "Black & White Conversion" from the "Filter" menu. Next, I clicked on the "Minus Selection Control Point", clicked on one of the eyes and I was done!
Well, almost done. I then went back to Adobe Lightroom to adjust the contrast, increase the blue saturation very slightly, and do some selective sharpening around the eyes.
This beautiful little girl is my baby granddaughter, Carlli, at almost 8 months.
