Park Project Could Include Boat Launch

A Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment grant project to build a boardwalk at Gateway Park this spring could bring something extra to the site, according to the city manager.

At Monday's Tawas City Council meeting, the state has approved a request by the city to use excess grant funding from the project to construct boat launch ramps at Gateway Park. Tawas City was originally awarded $134,000 in funding from the state, with a $61,000 match from the city, for a total of $195,000 for the project.

Boat launch ramps had been discussed at the park, with former councilmen pushing to have the ramps installed and the area dredged before the state money was awarded.
