I have a friend who wanted to move to Portland Oregon. He wanted me to write offers with him on a few homes. I told him that I didn't know Portland that wel (except the Zoo and OMSI)l. He indicated "well you have a license in Oregon right?" Yes I do. It's my duty as your friend to find you a Realtor there who knows the area very well, and can get you that "great deal". So I referred it out. He got a screamin' deal, and I got a referral, and a new friend to refer transactions in Portland to. Please Please Please... if you don't know the area, refer it out. It will be less hassle, and your client will be happier in the end.
Geoff , you are a true fiduciary !!!!!!!!! You know to put your clients(friends) interest ahead of your own - WTG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've gotten many calls from agents that wouldn't refer it out and that is really a shame. I had one that wanted me to show his client the home because he said he lived 5 hours away and it would be to difficult for him to come up and show? Oh and I don't have a MLS key for your area... WHAT?
Hello Geoff!! This is so true!! Why not pick up a 25-30% referral fee and sleep easier at night! A REALTOR can use ActiveRain or various other sources to identify a knowledgeable agent!
Geoff that is the correct approach it showed you had your friends best interest at heart.
I declined to work with a buyer who wanted to buy a home 100 miles away from me. I couldn't in good conscience work with him so I referred him to another Realtor over there.
As some ActiveRain friends of mine in Wisconsin like to say: "Know what you don't know."
