I just returned from a meeting the city conducted to reveal the West Bedford Waterfront plan including Birch Cove and it was awesome!! Picture a village type environment surrounding a round-about replacing the current Kearney Lake Rd/Bedford highway interchange.
Concerns over traffic were addressed by pointing out that this vision will take approximately 20 years to complete and the new Larry Uteck Interchange onto the Bi-Hi will alleviate congestion as would improved transit options currently being developed.
I for one would love to see this vision come to life because it will take what appears to be neglected commercial space (Irving, China Town Restaurant, old hotel, etc.) to that of a vibrant village atmosphere hosting green space, a board walk, boat marina, shops, housing, underground parking, infrastructure and a truly charming design.
City planners will be posting the vision online soon so I'll post the link as soon as it is there.
