How can we improve the Real Estate Agent Image?

By

It was in the news again today.  The Real Estate market is going down, down, down.  The turn around won't be until 2009.  Ok we get it!! The market isn't what it used to be, so what can we do as Realtors to improve?  I believe people have come to view most Realtors or Real Estate Agents in a negative light and we need to do something to help improve that image.

These 3 questions about Realtors and Real Estate Agents should help shed light on what we need to do.  If readers in all professional categories respond to these questions maybe we can gain some insight to improve ourselves in the public eye.

  1. How do you think people in general feel about Real Estate Agents?

     2.  What makes a good Agent?

      3.  Why don't many clients use the same Agent for their next transaction?

  1. How do you think people in general feel about Real Estate Agents?

Oddly, those at the higher end of the net worth scale view (some) of us as valuable professionals that provide a reasonable service for a reasonable fee.  At the lower end of the net worth arena, they think we are greedy, blood sucking leeches that make WAY too much money to not do anything.  At least that has been my experience.

     2.  What makes a good Agent?

Ethics.  Negotiating skills.  Ability to listen.  Ease of putting others needs in front of one's own.  Training.  Desire to help.

     3.  Why don't many clients use the same Agent for their next transaction?

From what I keep reading... because they can't remember who it is, most of the time.

Lane,

Thanks for the comment.  What makes a good agent is what a lot of people see as missing from most Real Estate agents.  Somehow we need to change that perception. I guess clilents forget their agent because agents don't do their part to keep in touch.
