A Home Deserves More Pics Than a Pair of Shoes...

Great RoomI love to cruise around eBay.  There are SO many cool things to see.  eBay Motors might be the coolest place ever.  Between the military vehicles, race cars and RVs, I am in heaven.  And then there is the opportunity to dream in the Boat section or while looking at aircraft...

There is something that many of the listings have in common, though...

Pictures...

In fact, lots of pictures.  I pulled up a pop-up camper that had 48 pictures.  Real estate listings locally don't have the capability to have that many pictures... the MLSs here top out at 20 pictures.  But what I find amazing is that the last time I surveyed recent Gwinnett County, GA, listings... only 13% had 20 pictures.  Over 16% had NO pictures.

Meanwhile, over on eBay, there are listings for cars and campers and kids' toys that have 20 or 40 or more pictures... Sconce

Why?

I've had agents tell me that there just weren't more things to take pictures of...  Really?  A 2500 square foot home has fewer photo opportunities than a 68 Cougar, Fleetwood Evolution E3 or a Hot Wheels set?  I don't think so.

That just doesn't seem right to me.  There are WAY too many things to shoot pictures of in a house, and then there are neighborhoods...  My only current listing (the other ones are sold...) has 37 pictures on the website, another dozen linked into the site, a video of the property, a virtual tour, an interactive design tool that allows you to change the paint colors and other things... and don't forget the interactive floor plan (you can drag furniture around in it to see if it will fit your lifestyle).

Doesn't it seem reasonable to have more pictures of a house for sale than a radio controlled boat?  I certainly think so...  What do you think?

Hi Lane! I try not to focus on a certain # of pics, but quality!  It may only be 10 good ones, but that is ok!  1 or 2 pics does not cut it anymore!  Ebay motors is great!!

What surprises me are the pictures that look like you are selling FURNITURE not the house!

Hi Lane ~ Our MLS will only allow 15 pics.  And, there are still agents who don't post any!

What gets me is when you have a 4000 square foot house (or bigger) on 25 acres and they have 3 pictures.  And they are so dark you can't see them.  That makes me nuts.  Why the owner puts up with that I have no idea.

I have 20 to 30 pictures and floor plans of my rental properties on my website - sometime as many as 40 with exterior photos and area amenities....I used to be so frustrated when our MLS only allowed 6 photos - now there are more allowed; however, few agents ever have more than 6 to 10

Thank you all.

I have been getting pretty annoyed by the crappy pictures, too.  I was looking at a multi-million dollar listing and I think the pics were shot with a bad phone.
