Rattlesnake Roundup!

By
Real Estate Agent with Real Estate by Design with Keller Williams Realty

In the exciting times that is my life, I decided I've always wanted to hold a rattlesnake.  So, I rounded up the husband and kids and headed down to Sweetwater, Texas and had the time of my life!  I guess the pictures tell the story.

Picking out the lucky fellow.

me holding a rattlesnake

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't just a tad on edge actually holding it in my hands.

Here is more information about the Rattlesnake Roundup.

He looks like a mighty cute fellow. Do they let you take them home with you to keep as  pets?

What do they do with the snakes afterward?

Good question!  The snakes that are caught are milked to make anti-venom.  That is actually why the whole event is put on in the first place.  Most of the snakes that are caught are skinned and eaten after they are milked.  Those that aren't eaten are measured, sexed, tagged, and released back into the wild.  It's a really fun event!

Sounds like an 'only in Texas' kind of event. Tastes like chicken?

Carissa - I've got a number of things on my "Bucket List" - but holding a rattlesnake isn't one of 'em. . .LOL

By the way, that rattlesnake in the top photo tells me his name is "FLUFFY."

Carissa, I have to agree with Myrl on this!  I don't like petting things that may kill me!

I hope that now that fluffy has a name he was one that was released. :)

Wow, Carissa -- you're a braver soul than I am. I'd love to try a skydive; walk up the cables of the Golden Gate Bridge, "soar" at IFly--but holding a rattlesnake isn't on the list.
