American Canyon Gets a New Green High School near the La Vigne, Canyon Creek and Vintage Ranch Subdivisions

American Canyon has a lot going for it.  Nestled between San Francisco and the Napa Valley, it is surrounded by green hills and water.  One thing that it has been missing is a high school to call its own.  Well, this fall that wait is over.  And to boot it is going green.

American Canyon High School will be located right next to the La Vigne, Canyon Creek and Vintage Ranch subdivisions on the corner of American Canyon Road and Newell.  The high school will incorporate numerous innovative sustainable design elements. It will include a 500 Kw photovoltaic solar array that will provide more than 40 percent of the campus' electricity. It will also use an advanced ground source heat pump mechanical system, extensive day lighting controls, many sustainable materials and numerous water conservation measures.  Together these features will make American Canyon an excellent example of green design.

Also on the 49.5-acre high school site will be a football field with artificial turf, tennis and basketball courts, and baseball diamonds with real grass.

The high school will eventually serve about 2,200 students from the Vintage Ranch, La Vigne and Canyon Creek subdivisions when it opens in 2010.
