Windwood Coves, at Lake Anna, Virginia, has it all. One of the largest communities here and one of the older ones, Windwood Coves has made a name for itself. Without a doubt it has one of the nicest common areas around the lake.
For those of you that do not know what a common area is, it is a waterfront lot in a community that has been reserved to allow access to the lake. Common areas vary from one subdivision to another. The one in Windwood Coves has some very nice amenities for the property owners. There is a very large beach, a volley ball court, playground, tennis courts, and both a large and a smaller pavilion.
Windwood Coves Waking Up to the Sunrise
There are only a few gated communities at Lake Anna and Windwood Coves is one of them. There is also a sentry building at the entrance. Many of the property owners get around using golf carts on the private roads. That is one of the signature sights you see as you ride around. The carts come in handy to run up to the gate for your mail and newspaper, for carrying coolers and other paraphernalia to your boat, taking your dog(s )for a ride, and to visit neighbors.
Another distinctive feature about Windwood Coves was the requirement for many years that homes could only be built using natural materials and earth tones for color. While the earth tone requirement is still enforce, there has been a change in the other requirement. Homes no longer need to be brick, or stone, or cedar, or other type of wood. Many of the newer homes are using new materials such as vinyl siding as the ease of this maintenance has become apparent. You will still see the homes, garages, and sheds blending into the mostly wooded lots.
Lots are generally close to an acre in size with some that are larger. As all of the homes are on well and septic enough land is provided to meet those needs.
Like most of the subdivisions around Lake Anna, it is a mix of off water (access) and waterfront lots. Naturally that impacts the value of the properties. Waterfront lots are priced higher with the value of individual lots is based on the amount of shoreline, views of the lake, depth of the water, and other factors.
Homes in this waterfront community range from small ramblers to large three level homes with loads of upgrades. Sold prices, during the past six months, ranged from $177,000 to $540,000 for the only waterfront home.
