"Kiss the cow, kiss the cow, kiss the cow". You don't hear that chant very often, not even in Sonoma County. Comstock Middle School Principal, Bob Dahlstet, challenged his students to read as many books as possible during this last school quarter. Their reward? They would be invited to the barnyard to watch their principal kiss Lilly, the dairy cow.
The idea of seeing their principal kiss a cow seemed funny and disgusting at the same time. But the thought of it was such an inspiration, the students read over 1200 books on their own time, three weeks before the deadline.
The best quote from the highest award-winning reader? "It was disgusting, I felt sorry for the cow".
