Lake of the Ozarks! Big Lake = Really Big Fish!

There are 646,000,000,000 gallons of water in the largest made-made, non-flood control lake in the United States. All this water makes for billions of fish, and big ones at that.  Fed by the Niangua River, the Osage River, Grandglaize Creek and Gravois Creek  --  the Great Lake of the Ozarks is a Fisherman's dream.  The word is out that the ice is broken and the fish are biting!

 There are more than a dozen species of fish in Lake of the Ozarks.  Bass, Crappie, Blue Gill and Catfish are the most sought after.  There are several types of Bass but the one every fisherman loves to land is the Hybrid Striped Bass.  These fish are known for their ferocious fighting and their ability to grow to double digits in weight.  The area just below Bagnell Dam is a prime spot for catching these trophy fish.  In 1986 a Hybrid Stripper weighing in at 20.5 pounds was caught. 

 With a body of water this enormous you can expect to catch some enormous fish!  The Missouri Department of Conservation reported that over the past 10 years a 36 lb. Buffalo Fish, 34 lb. Drum Fish, a 42 lb. Muskie, a 91 lb. Blue Catfish - and the granddaddy of them all - a 111lb. Paddlefish!  Through careful management and stocking efforts, the Missouri Department of Conservation is working to keep Lake of the Ozarks a Premiere Fishing destination.  Beginning April 1, fishing and water reports will be posted on the Conservation Department's website.  Check it out and plan your next fishing adventure to beautiful Lake of the Ozarks.
