♪♫♫☺♫♫♪ San Diego is located in a desert, although one with a Mediterranean climate. What that means is that water is a precious resource. Although there are many lakes throughout San Diego County, not a single one is a natural lake, all having been created by manmade dams to create reservoirs. Very few of the lakes allow recreational activities such as boating and swimming, and several of them don't allow fishing either. The closest lake to your Mission Valley home that allows boating and fishing, but no swimming, is Lake Murray.
Lake Murray is located at the southern end of the Mission Trails Regional Park, most easily accessible at the Kiowa street entrance just off of Lake Murray Boulevard. When the lake is at capacity, there are 171 surface acres, a depth of 95 feet, and 3.2 miles of shoreline. Dogs are allowed in the park, but they must be kept on a leash, kept 50 feet away from the edge of the water, and are not allowed on boats, private or rented, at any time. The lake is stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, crappie, and trout. A state fishing license is required. Along with plenty of water and parking, there are: The wildlife is very friendly, probably because everyone (including me) feeds it, but do remember that it is wild. The Lake and Park are well used, but it never seems to be overcrowded. Hours vary during the year, but generally it's open dusk to dawn, so whether you like fishing, walking, biking, barbecuing, feeding the wildlife, or just wandering around, check out Lake Murray. Be sure to take some food for the birds, squirrels, and rabbits.

That's a very informative post on Lake Murray Jim! Lake Murray sounds like a very inviting place to relax and enjoy the environment for awhile. Wonder why they don't let the puppy dogs on the boats? Bet that was you that fed that big dinner roll to that squirrel!
Hi Jim, another great post of things to do in San Diego. Keep them coming, What kind of poultry are those with the bulbous thing on their beak?
Jim, I've been to San Diego several times and never know there were lakes there. I must go next time out.
Hi Jim - Great profile of Lake Murray, and does make one want to head over there! Did you make the little sailboat at the end?
Jim,
I really appreciate San Diego's 2 seasons; both very pleasant. lol

Nice post. There is a new Active Rain group called Saturday in the Park, you may want to join.
Tammy, you have to go up into the mountains to find it. It's a very scenic ride, and a great fishing hole.
