Flagstaff's Forest Highlands is not just for golfers...
When you think of Forest Highlands up in Flagstaff, the first thought is most likely golf. Considering the community was built around the Canyon Golf Course, which has been rated Number 1 in Arizona for 20 years – that’s an easy mistake to make. And, let’s not forget the Meadows Course – quickly rising in the rankings... But there is so much more!
Today's focus is on the Forest Highlands Recreation Department which is open during the high-season of the summer months. The Recreation Department, headed by Kurt Martin, continues to grow and expand their programs for the children of Forest Highlands.
The current Center is bursting at the seams to accommodate the enormous interest in the programs. From Memorial Day to Labor Day they run summer camps Tuesday through Saturday from 9 AM – 3 PM. Activities range from swimming, soccer, basketball and volleyball and even cheerleading camp.
The Teen Program has been expanded this year to provide more social events for the teenagers. Every Thursday night from June to August they sponsor “Teen Hangout” nights with activities on property such as Capture the Flag and Ultimate Frisbee. They also take trips into town for rock wall climbing and many other exciting, fun things to do. Or, they just let the teens “hang out” with BBQs and Pizza nights.
Forest Highlands is the perfect family environment during the summer. It’s secure with a guarded gate and security patrols, and has an abundance of bike and walking paths, lakes for fishing, and large grassy areas for playing sports or just lounging around with friends. It really brings back those good old days of summer.
