Speechless Sunday-Sometimes Spring Cleaning Means More Than Dusting

Spring Cleaning on the Occoquan River

It is spring cleaning time.  Not only for our own homes but for the shoreline of the local Northern Virginia rivers and creeks.  This weekend's clean up along the Occoquan River produced a few bags of trash and a nice selection of tires as well.  Unfortunately no gold dubloons were discovered turning this clean up from Trash to Treasure.

Cindy:

These are the days when disposing of old televisions, microwaves, computers and old tires is a difficult task.  Who picked these up?

I'm glad someone is trying to clean up the area rivers.  I can't believe people actually throw tires in there but, eveidently, it's a common practice.

Nothing you sell on eBay, huh?  :-)

It's amazing the junk that is found washed ashore from our rivers, lakes and oceans.  It's good to see a community pull together and help clean up.  We do need to treasure our water resources and keep them as pristine as possible.

Cindy...I think is great that the community can participate in the clean up effort to make the areas look better.  I'm amazed that people just through stuff like that in the river.

I know what you mean Cindy, sometimes spring cleaning requires a set of work gloves and a dump truck,,,

Richard-we had a strong turn out at multiple locations to clean up some of the winter debris.

Fernando-perhaps they thought the geese could use them as inner tubes to float down the river?

Roy-I've been working on cleaning my closets and I'm surprised what I find.

Barbara-the local county comes by to pick up after the volunteers have bagged the trash.  Only folks with heavy duty gloves were allowed to pick up the tires.

Claudette-local county dump is coming to pick up what is stacked.  They will dispose of correctly.

Ken-nothing for Ebay or Craigslist.  Drat I was sure there would be a sparking gem of some sort to be found.

Christopher and Stephanie-tires with rusted rims are especially heavy!

Kristin-it is a semi-annual event in our area and I try and remember to take a small trash bag with me when I take my walks in the nature reserve to pick up little items.

Tamara-I'm no longer surprised with how much debris there is but certainly am trying to do my best not to contribute to the problem.

Carra-there are folks who think nothing of sneaking into an area late at night and just tossing what is in their vehicle into a local creek or river.

Gerry-at least I hope my own house doesn't require quite as much heavy lifting.

Cindy:  It's amazing that people can just drop this junk anywhere.  You gotta wonder what their homes look like.

Kristen-their homes are probably cleaner than mine since they dump their stuff in the river.
