STOP! Choose Your House Wisely!
Be Sure to Check Out the Neighborhood…
Unfortunately, there is no “cooling off” period when you buy a home. If you're considering buying a home, be sure and do your “home” work. Here are a few suggestions that I give my buyers when we are thinking of putting in an offer or have put in an offer.
- Drive by the house at different times of the day to see what is going on in the neighborhood, especially on a weekend night.
- Talk to the neighbors - the homeowners may not tell the "whole" truth but you can bet their neighbors will!
- Take a look at the homes in the area - are the lawns green and maintained, are the streets clear of congestion, are the homes kept up?
- Take some extra time to just sit and listen - what do you hear? Airplanes? Trains? Kids? Dogs? Traffic? Are the sounds acceptable to you?
- Are the amenities you want close by? Are you close to friends and family, your children's schools, your favorite stores, where you work, etc?
- Have you checked out the crime statistics in the neighborhood? A few websites to check out are:

The bottom line is when you buy a home you need to know not only about the condition of the physical home itself but all the conditions of the homes surroundings. Do your investigations first so you won’t be disappointed later!
