Continuing on our tour of 7 Asheville Second-Vacation Home Locales you will enjoy considering, we arrive Asheville area eco-friendly home with view at CRESTONat Creston Eco-Friendly Community.

Points to keep in mind as we head out on this sunny day to look at Creston within the context of suitability for Second and/or Vacation homes are, a) proximity to Asheville, b) the exterior and/or interior allure for a second or vacation home,  and c) zoning/deed restrictions.

The  foundation of a conservation-oriented community such as Creston Preserve rests on maintaining a healthy and diverse ecosystem-   a place where people can choose to live among caring neighbors, sharing their inspiration and enthusiasm. This is true at Creston where there is a particular benefit in being a part of a sustainable community.

Proximity: About a 45 minute drive from Asheville, NC, and just 11 minutes to Black Mountain, NC with excellent restaurants, grocery stores and recreational facilities, Creston second and /vacation home owners not only because of the absolute beauty of the development, but because of its proximity to the amenities the towns provide.

Features and Benefits:

"North Carolina has proven to be one of the top five retirement states in the nation over the past 30 years, "  according to Retirement Lifestyles Magazine.  This, despite a blip in the housing market,  the magazine reports , "will continue to be attractive to boomers, empty-nesters and retirees."  And Creston is on solid ground financially means you can expect good appreciation and value for your money-of significant importance to most Second and Vacation home investors.

Trail Leading to Natl Forest Second/Vacation Homes Asheville- CRESTONExterior Environment: Creston's eco-friendly development design emphasizesa "close-to-nature" setting as opposed to more urban developments we will visit later this week where walkable communities are the focus. As in our tour of Three Creeks, we feel a wonderful  connection with nature -the sites situated to maximize privacy and views, trails leading into huge conservation areas with the sound of waterfalls beckoning,  sunny lots with southern exposure for organic gardens,  and atop the mountain the community center for all to enjoy.  We are excited about one particular "cabin site" here.  It adjoins the National Forest and the rails leading to Allison Falls.

It seems the perfect place to build a LEED® Certified second and/or vacation home. And we know the perfect General Contractor who just happens to live right at Creston! We take this as a clue to what our Second and Vacation home clients might expect in terms of excellence in this Asheville area community.

Creston's  Significant Features: Beautifully landscaped (Native Plants) and rockery entrance, Earth-Friendly Chip and Seal Paved Roads, Miles of  Walking and Hiking Trails that Lead to 1,000+ Acres of conservation land. You can take a picnic to Waterfalls or stroll down the road to a  gorgeous mountain overlook.

Important to know: Because the eco developers at Creston Preserve have, for years, been on the leading edge of sustainable innovation, the conservation acreage around the eco-neighborhoods will always be in its natural state for you and your family to enjoy for generations to come.

Note:  If you are considering Creston  in terms of an income stream from vacation rentals, please check on deed restrictions. At present (2010) this is allowed.

We are in the business of finding incredible Land for our clients, whether that be Land for Sale by Owner or Land listed on the MLS.  And the Greater Asheville area abounds with such special finds.

There are a number of  unique building sites ranging in price from approximately $120,900 to $545,000 currently available at Creston..

Here is our own video look at one example, a 3AC+ building site leading to the National Forest via hiking trails... oh yes...and listen for the  sound of wildlife and possibly even the waterfall in the distance.  This site currently is LAND  For Sale By Owner (FSBO).   There are others, too . . .

When considering Asheville's Second-Vacation Home Locales, be sure to put Creston on your list.  And please do  let us know if, like us, you can see yourself  building your own green-built dream home at Creston Eco-community...and when?

JaneAnne: great localism post and no wonder Ashville is one of the great areas to retreat to and relocate to. I like the picture of the home over the mountain..

Hi janeAnne, This was just great. I think your video really puts a "live" feel to what living there would be like and yes,  I could hear and even imagine that waterfall. It must be pretty big or very close by. Suspecting both of those things, size and location :-)
