Creating an interactive photo map of your community with flickr and iMapflickr

Services for Real Estate Pros with Virtual Tidewater

I have been on a mission since the weather started warming up a bit.  I've been trying to take an hour or two per week to take local pictures of our area and share them on my website and blogs.  I want someone who is coming from out of town to really get to know our area.  I'm sure there is more than one way to add an interactive google map to your website, but this is what I have found works great for me.

I am going to assume you can upload your photos to your flickr account - after you upload your photos you will want to geo-tag them onto the flickr map.  To do this click on "Organize and Create" and then click on "Map".  Thumbnails of your images will be below the map and you basically just drag and drop the image to where it was taken. The pictures are now "GeoTagged".  Because iMapFlickr uses photosets to find the data for your map you will need to create a photoset and add the pictures you want displayed on the map into the photo set (this will make putting the new photos on your map in the future very easy).  I have a different photoset for each city in our area because I have a separate map for each city, but you could certainly do just one big map/photoset.

Once you have added your photos to your photo set go to imapflickr.com  Create and account and enter your flickr information - iMapFlickr will then connect to your flickr account and find your photosets.  Click "Create Map" under the photoset you want to use.  A map will appear with your photos and pin points of where the image was taken.  It will now allow you to customize the size of the map.  Once you are happy with the size click on "Finish and Share"  HTML code will appear so you can embed into your website.  You can also post your map to facebook or twitter.

Here is the big time saver that I love - Now whenever you add a geo-tagged photo to your specified photoset in Flickr - it will automatically update your map anywhere you have it posted.
