We're having another great season up at Desert Mountain. The six golf courses are in exceptionally good condition and very lush due to the abundant rainfall we've had this year. We have had almost five times as much rain as we are accustomed to having by this time of the year. That meant a lot of canceled golf games, but the aftermath will be spectacular. We are all looking up towards Apache Peak to watch for the outcropping of wild flowers that are expected to start blooming any day. In past years, after a wet season, the entire mountainside was golden with poppies.
In addition to our spectacular six Jack Nicklaus golf courses, the Sonoran Clubhouse is becoming the hub of activities for more and more members and their families. This year, we welcomed Matt Wooldrige as the Director of Tennis, Spa and Fitness Operation. Matt comes from a successful career at the Decathalon Club in Santa Clara, California. Joining Matt is our new Tennis Professional, Ali Colak.
Both gentlemen have competed and were highly ranked during their professional tennis careers. Already aware of the reputation of the Desert Mountain Golf staff and how much the members enjoy working with these top professionals, their goal is to ensure that the tennis program becomes as well-known and are striving to provide more activities and tournaments for the tennis players at Desert Mountain.
I was especially pleased to see the expansion of the Children's programs and the Child Care Center for the younger ones. Adjacent to the Sonoran Clubhouse is a large grassy area set up for soccer, play equipment with slides and swings, and basketball and volleyball courts for the older children and adults alike.
Desert Mountain has always been known as a top notch golf community, but I don't think everyone realizes how much is available in addition to the golf at Desert Mountain.
