If you blog...you can write an e-newsletter

The Same Rules Apply!

Here are 5 tips to get you started thinking about e-content:

1. PLAN - Create an "Idea" folder. Write a list of all the questions you are asked daily about your service/product. What are 3 common mistakes your clients make when choosing a product/service in your industry? Think of information in your industry that you can share that would make your clients life easier. Ask for experts that share the same target market as you to be guest writers!

2. WIIFTR - What is in it for the reader! It is not good enough to sell them your services. Give them more. Give them quality information that they can use right away! Take this blog for instance. Ultimately I would love to see you on my webinar about creating an online e-newsletter using Constant Contact, however, I am giving you inspirational advice so you can get started thinking and planning your newsletter campaigns, right away. You don’t have to buy and you don’t have to wait for it. These 5 tips are yours to read, think about and implement. If you choose to, that is.

3. SHORT AND SWEET - Use bullet points to make your point and keep the content focused. Do not be long-winded. Add personality, but do not make the mistake of having to tell the reader 5 pages of information. One or two messages per newsletter is perfect! More than that and you are bound to have readers tuning you out. Not to mention, you will soon run out of content for future newsletters!!!

4. KEEP IT FRESH & ALIVE! - Change up the content. You can have the same message each newsletter. Just post it in different ways. Articles, Announcements, Case Studies, Testimonials. USE GRAPHICS - a wall of text is not appealing. It is like walking into a vacant home. There is nothing for the buyer or in this case the reader to make an emotional connection to.

4. CALL FOR ACTION - what do you want the reader to do? Call you? Give you Feedback? Buy Now? Register for a webinar? Make it clear what you would like the reader to do. “Join me on April 6th, 2010 at 7pm for a tutorial on how to create an online newsletter using Constant Contact. We will work right through and you will be able to create your own newsletter after the 1.5 hour webinar. Call today to register 1-888-782-4464.” Everyone is welcome. You do not need to be a stager. You only need to have the desire to create and send an e-blast.

Fernando,

Your welcome!! It was my pleasure. I agree with you. It is one of the first things I recommend when coaching. Whether your database has 15 people or 15,000 - you need to start a newsletter to stay in front and close in their mind when a need for your product or service arises.

Not to mention, you are the expert if you are the one that keeps giving them informative and useful advice through out the year. People like to refer experts.

Angela- one of the first things I did when I started my business was to send out a monthly e-Newsletter via Constant Contact.  Haven't regretted it, even though there are months when I just can't figure out what I'm going to say.  I agree with #1 ie. keep a notepad or notebook with ideas.
