While preparing for the 2000 Olympics, American diver Laura Wilkinson broke three toes and was unable to go into the water. Rather than stop her preparations, she sat for hours each day on the diving platform, repeatedly recreating in her mind a detailed vision of each of her dives. She went on to win a gold medal in the 10 meter platform competition without physically practicing her dive once. 100% mental preparation.
I love this illustration of how powerful the human mind is. What are you imagining? What are you rehearsing in your head? Do you visualize yourself as successful - if so, what does that look like? Do you visualize yourself traveling? If so, where to? What do you see, smell, hear and sense?
Your brain is so intricate that it will literally start finding ways to materialize what is in your thoughts. That is why it is imperative to maintain a positive outlook on life and to DREAM daily.
In the words of Gandhi:
Keep your thoughts positive,
because your thoughts become your words.
Keep your words positive,
because your words become your behaviours.
Keep your behaviours positive,
because your behaviours become your habits.
Keep your habits positive,
because your habits become your values.
Keep your values positive,
because your values become your destiny.
